It's my birthday today.
And what a birthday it's been already.
Horrible quality photo, but I feel like it shows our horrible quality of health today.
I can only conclude that getting ridiculously sick, fever and all, the day before my birthday, means that my body doesn't want to be a year older. In fact, I've decided that it means I don't have to count this year.

Yesterday, I spent the day taking medicines, and showers to cut my fever. I was either in bed or glued to the couch. Pathetic, basically.

Snookums had to work late, pick up some sick supplies, come home to a messy house, eat fast food for dinner, and listen to me whine and moan all night. (Poor Snookums!)

This morning, I woke up to Skeeter throwing up ALL OVER ME.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!
I am a mess today. Really.
Regardless of the fever, the aches and pains, the cancelled birthday plans, and the puppy puke, it's still the best birthday ever, because my Snookums is home, safe and sound. I could NOT ask for a better birthday present than that!

Hopefully, my day gets a little better. But if it doesn't, I know I can look forward to a night spent watching movies and ordering take out (saltines and 7up most likely for me) with Snookums and my pukey puppy.

Happy Birthday to me.

The temperature has finally dropped a little here in North Carolina (on our one year wedding anniversary actually!) So I finally got to drag out the sweaters, boots and leggings! Since our front porch is looking so fall-ish we had a little photo shoot :)
My favorite season is fall. It always has been! I love the brisk weather, and the pretty orange/yellow sunshine you see in the evening.I LOVE when the leaves change colors. If someone could figure a way to bottle up the smell of burning leaves, I would buy TONS of it.
Don't mind the pumpkin cut outs! Just there to cover up our "wedding pumpkin" as I like to call it. (It has our last name on it & our wedding date!)
I'm a huge fan of sweaters and leggings. I'm moderately obsessed with BOOTS. I own far too many pairs, or so I am told. I love anything cinnamon or pumpkin flavored. And I love all things Halloween.
LOVE MY BOYS

And I'm including this one to keep it real around here. The outtakes from our photo sessions always makes me laugh. Snookums has a knack for catching me in the most unflattering poses or faces possible. HAHA

January 2012

Ohhh January.

To talk about January,I have to go back to December for a few minutes.December was themonth, where we were adjusting to our new home in NC as well as shuttling back andforth all over for Christmas celebrations. It was SO nice to get to travel homeand see everyone, but it was also very exhausting for the both of us. It was one of those things where you literally have a BLAST while you are doing it, but feel totally drained afterwards.
(Don't believe me? It took me six, yes SIX posts to recap all we did during our little two week break!! We really had so much fun, we visited all our family, went to UK basketball games, and just acted like hoodlums in general. It was pretty awesome... you can read them here: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6)

Apart from all the fun we had, it was the last visitmost family and friends would have with my husband and me before he left for AfghanistanOf course, (and understandably) everywhere we went, everyone wanted to know aboutthe deployment, ask him questions, and learn about what he would be doing forthe next 9 months! It was so awesome thateveryone was interested, but, an impending deployment is not an Army wife’sfavorite dinner conversation topic.
Let’s just say, I spent a lot of timerefilling my wine glass through the last few weeks of December. ;)
Once we returned hometo NC after our holiday tour of 2011, we spent our New Year’s Eve together, just the two of us. It was SO NICE to just relax and pig out on the couchtogether, in our own home, after two and a half weeks of running the road andstaying at people’s houses. That New Year’s Eve,will probably always be one of my favorites. It was our first one as a marriedcouple, and we spent it alone, relaxed at home. Some of my favorite memories from the night was just us sitting there cracking jokes together over what was on the t.v.
Remember the show on TLC about the 30 year old virgins first kiss on their wedding day? Yeah. We had a lot of fun with that one. (see photos here: {Happy New Year})
January also meantthat February was around the corner, which meant that “D-day” was coming up too.(deployment.) I would be lying if Isaid that January was a “good month”. I had a harder time the month beforedeployment than I did at almost any point DURING the deployment! I was flippingout that our days together were running out, and to make matters worse, he wasworking super late, every night the month of January and February. (Like, notgetting home until 9-10 at night, and leaving for work again before 5 the nextday.) He was exhausted from working, I was exhausted from worrying, and I justwasn’t sure what to think about the whole “military thing”. I specificallyremember thinking,
“WHAT THE HELL DID I SIGN UP FOR?”
Looking back now, Iwish I could tell myself to R E L A X, because, I was about to kick thisdeployment’s ass. I was about to handle this thing like a seasoned Militarywife pro, but, at the time, I just couldn’t get past the thought of himleaving.
January was a month ofa lot of unknowns for me. Regardless of the looming deployment I still managedto make some really awesome memories. We went on a ton of dates, and went aheadand did the extra things, spent a little extra money, and enjoyed our timetogether.
Week in review posts from January:
{Week 1} {Week 2} {Week 3} {Week 4}
Our moms (the gigglesisters) came down to NC for a hilarious/fun visit too. Their visit wasdefinitely a bright spot in the month of January! We all had such a good timeshopping, lunching, hanging out, visiting THE CREEPIEST random museum I’ve everbeen to, and just goofing off in general. It’s always fun to have your momscome take care of you :)They also surprised usone night and basically unpacked, arranged, and organized our house for uswhile we were asleep! If going to bed withan unpacked house and waking up to an organized crib doesn’t make your month, I’mnot sure what would.
(Read about their visit here:)
{the giggle sisters are coming to town},
{the time we got lost in a creepy museum},
{spoiled rotten}
January was a hardmonth for me emotionally. It kind of was a culmination of many things. 2011 wasan amazing year, but it was JAM PACKED with changes, and stressful situations. They say wedding planning, and moving are two of the most stressful things youcan do in your life, and we planned a wedding in 3 months, followed by 3 movesin 6 months. That’s a lot for anyone! Toss in a deployment, and you’re asking for a freak out.
Regardless of thestress inducing things I dealt with that month, I still have some really awesomememories of fun date nights with my hubs, and hilarious moments with the gigglesisters.

So, thank you January.I’m hoping our next go around will be a leeeelte bit better!

Twenty One Days Gone and Passed...

Ok seriously, I have an app on my phone that counts down the amount of time left until his Home Coming...we are already done with 8%!!

Today I plan to put together a video outlining our last three weeks of our experience with deployment. The ups and downs, what I have learned and what I continue to learn. I will also be answering some of the questions I have been asked so far.

Chris says this deployment has been quite a challenge, something about this one that makes it different than the rest. I am lucky to say that we have had pretty good communication in the last 3 weeks but that is about to change. I expected that. I am ok with it because I am confident we will do well. We will be counting on snail mail!! I have already written a few letters.

This week I will be putting together his first care package. What to send? I have only gathered what he couldn't take with him and I plan on shopping for snacks. I don't think he minds as long as he gets something from home. My boys have made drawings and notes to send to daddy. PICTURES are important, so I am sending a lot of those. Luckily, in this day in age, computers can save pictures, so of course I have been emailing him a ton.

We had a wonderful holiday. My friends came over for a potluck dinner and it turned out to be so much fun!! Charades and Mad Gab were some of the games we played! I am so lucky that I was able to spend it with them.
I compiled some clips of our holiday celebration in a video to send to Chris, he enjoyed it!
Pictures down below!! Video Link as well!

Thank you for your continued support, your words inspire me!

2012: A year in review

To contact us Click HERE

2012 has been a crazyyear for me. Good, but crazy. At the beginning of2012, I was having a hard time looking forward to the year ahead. Snookums andI were newly married and I was about to send him off to Afghanistan for 9 months. It would be our firstdeployment, and I just was NOT looking forward to it. (Could you blame me?)
However, now lookingback over the year, that very deployment is what shaped my entire year. All mybest and worst moments were somehow tied in with it. But, for just as many “nofun” moments it supplied, it also made available some of the GREATEST momentsof the year!
Yes, it definitelySUCKED having him away. It was hard on both of us. But, because my husband wasdeployed, it brought us closer, it made us a team!2012 and our deploymentprovided the time, and funds for me to do a lot of traveling, and enjoy somereally cool experiences with my friends and with my family! Without that time,I would have missed out on some once in a lifetime events! (One example isseeing my brother graduate Navy boot camp!)
It also allowed me alot of alone time, to figure some things out for myself, dabble in some of myhobbies, and start to really decide how I want my career and life to play out. (Of course, no matter how well laid our plans are, they will ALWAYS change.)
2012 taught me A LOTabout my husband, our marriage, and it taught me a TON about myself. 2012 really made thephrase “you find out who your friends are” ring true. It taught me that yourfamily will always be there, it helped open my eyes to the way things work, andalso helped me “draw a line in the sand” about other things. In 2012, I learnedhow to stand up for myself.
I grew up a lot in2012. I learned that a positive attitude is important, and decided thatspeaking positive, and surrounding yourself with likeminded people is 90% ofthe battle in being happy.
I learned what ittruly means to MISS someone, I learned what it feels like to be totallyhelpless, and I learned how it felt to have no control over things.
I experienced true JOYand RELIEF after finally seeing my husband safe and sound in front of me again.I also learned thankfulness.

I did a "Top 11 of 2011" post, last year, which you can read HERE. But, this year I am going to do something a little different.
For the next 12 posts,I’m going to look back on each month. It will not only be a way for me torelive a few of my favorite memories of the year, but it will also help remindme of what I learned along the way!
2012 was a very good year for me, even with the deployment. Looking back, it was honestly a BLAST.I hope 2013 holds justas many “lessons” as 2012 did.
Happy New Year!
