First Day Off

It's amazing how many things we take for granted.
There are so many small, seemingly normal things that we do every day, that our military doesn't get the luxury of doing while deployed!
(of course, where they are deployed, what base they are located on, and what job they have makes the availability vary!)
My husband's unit dealt with little sleep, limited showers, and few "amenities" like readily available phones and internet within their tents. Their air conditioning broke on many occasions, and plenty of situations were uncomfortable in ways I can't imagine.
Because of my husband's job and schedule, we were EXTREMELY lucky and blessed to get to talk almost every day unless they were on blackout (which still happened quite often).
However, many of my friends who had husbands stationed with mine, were not so lucky. Some of them didn't hear from their husbands for days on end, because of their jobs and locations.
Another aspect of deployment that makes it so exhausting and hard, is the time off.
There is none.
Can you imagine working 30 days straight? No weekends, no late mornings, no half days, or early nights.
I can't.
I used to think having one day off in two weeks was insane.
Now imagine working seven MONTHS with no day off. Not a single one. Thats 200+ days! over 4,800 hours. Yes, there is some down time here and there, and they do get to sleep, but the thought of not having a single day off for 7 months is mind boggling to me!

Snookums first day off in seven months was spent doing everyday, normal things.

He slept in, until he felt like waking up, in a REAL bed!
He took a shower for as long as he wanted to!
He went to the refrigerator to get himself whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted!
He skyped and called all the people he hadn't talked to, or seen in months!
Skyping with the Moo's!
He turned his cell phone on!
Notice his cell phone wants him to confirm the time and they day.. February 26th... the day he left!
He wore civilian clothes!
He posed for pictures for his annoying, camera happy wife!
He drove a car!
He went out to a restaurant for lunch!
He ate a fresh meal cooked to order!
He drank his first beer!
He spent time RELAXING on the couch!
All these things seem sooooo small and trivial, but they were all things he hadn't been able to do in so long!!
It just makes you think, we not only are indebted to those serving in the military for the sacrifice of their safety, but also for the sacrifice of their every day lives.
They do what they need to do, so we can continue driving around, living comfortably, eating in restaurants and having a beer.
I know I have a lot of military wives and girlfriends who follow me here, so I just want to take a minute to tell all of you THANK YOU for continuing to be strong for your loved ones, and a HUGE THANK YOU to your loved ones that serve! It is so very appreciated! :)
