Oddly enough, I started looking for my dress about 2 months ago. (I'm NEVER prepared ahead of time! I always wait until the last minute.) I had a general idea of the look I was going for. I went to pictures of my "style icon", January Jones, AKA Betty Draper, from Mad Men.
I have been obsessed with that 60's/70's housewife, pin up girl look for a LONG time. I love everything about it! Bold lips, big hair, soft curls, long lashes. I love it. My whole wedding day look was based off of that Mad Men, 60's Hollywood era as well. I am truly obsessed. (Blake Lively was my go to for inspiration photos for my wedding look!)
See?Anyway, moving on. I decided I wanted to stick to that look. So I was on the hunt for something "Betty Draper" inspired. Something you would see someone like Grace Kelly wear on the red carpet! :)
Since it's still been pretty warm around NC, I wanted to find a good transition dress.
Something that still seems appropriate with the warmer weather, but still have a fall "feel" to it!
I've been on a nude and champagne kick lately, and keep finding myself drawn to dresses and pieces in those colors, like these!
creditI found a dress, and I love it. It kind of pulls together all the "style looks" I was hoping for, however, I'm just a leeeeetle concerned it might be a little too "va-va-voom" compared to some other dresses that will be there. But, Snookums is going to be looking all dapper in his dress blues with all his new ribbons from his previous deployment, so I feel like I need to step up my game! ;)It could very well be just a *tad* sparkly for the occasion, but you know the old saying, "it's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed." So, I'm going for it.

SPARKLEEEEE.
I plan on doing a low side swept up do, with soft curls, and of course, some red lips. (duh.)
I won't be wearing any jewelry other than some diamond studs, and my engagement/wedding rings, and a pair of nude sandals!
I plan on letting the dress do all the talking! ;)
I sent a picture of the dress to a friend of mine, and her response was "dang girl. you like the sparkle!" haha!!
Yes, I do.
We decided as well, that our dress selections will most likely get some "side eyes" from some of the other ladies.
But you know what?
It's better to be "side eyed" than ignored. ;)
So, that's my game plan for the Army Ball on Saturday.
Wish me luck that it all comes together like I want it to, and that I don't get too many stink/side eyes. ;)
If you don't follow me on instagram... you should! I'll probably post a few pics from the ball! @lilmoomoo
