I have been watching Kalel Cullen or QueenBeeuty for almost a couple years on and off. I say on and off because for a moment she deleted all her videos and started posting "lookbooks." If you are not familiar with "lookbooks," it is basically a video where a YT Guru dresses up in particular brand name clothing and shows it off like a video photo album. Some are pretty neat, but it became too repetitive for me. Kalel Cullen or shall I say Kristin Smith her birth name and legal name, has been criticized over and over for being a liar and today I finally understand why. I supported her channel completely even when she was having an identity crisis and went from bleach blonde to black hair over night...she was trying to be her true self. Her inconsistency makes me question her true motives as of lately. Unfortunately in the past few years she has been caught up in some lies. I really did try and give her a chance as she really seemed like she was speaking from her heart...so I thought. Today I came across her latest video in my subscription box. You can watch it below. She did a haul video on Bath and Body Works and Express Clothing. I will (paraphrase) her in this blog and you can tell me what you think.
Kalel: "I had $200.00 worth of Express Cash Coupons but the guy must have thought I had double, so he put $400.00...I had spent so much that..looking back I guess he should have realized that's a big difference, $200.00 (with a giggle)..I debated going back and telling them, but I was already home and it is an hour drive (rolls eyes)..I don't think there was anything they could do at this point anyway..so I guess it was just my lucky day!!" Really??? There is a phone number on the receipt, it would have been really easy to call back and let them know they had made an error and attempt to make it right. I was so disappointed in her reaction to the situation. NO INTEGRITY and relying on a "Retail UNIVERSAL policy.." You crack me up Kalel. Just chalk it up as $200.00 of "lost" coupons. Do you know how much time is spent searching for $200.00 worth of missing merchandise and money?? There is paperwork and camera work involved. There will be time spent and wasted...all because a customer decides to keep their mouth closed...you didn't save the guy his job, you're not a hero. Ok yes, they would have let you keep the merchandise and you wouldn't have had to pay it back...but not saying anything isn't okay either. Yes your morals are being questioned because the image you set forth in your video doesn't say too much.
The cashier made a mistake, accidentally typing in $400.00 instead of $200.00. I am wondering how Kalel didn't even notice it when the total was read aloud. You can't notice a $200.00 difference?? Did you really spend that much at Express?? I forget, she makes a ton on YT. The sales just make it so confusing!! <---Her words.
Back to why I am passionate about this subject. I have worked retail, both customer service and behind the scenes as a Loss Prevention Officer and as an LP Manager.
***side note: (I hold a degree in Criminal Justice for those who think I am talking out of my ass.)
$200.00 is a lot of money. That is my groceries for 3 weeks. That is a lot of gas money. That could be someone's paycheck. I was highly irritated by her demeanor, like no big deal I scored, screw the cashier. AND then proceeds to show off her "LOOT." She didn't feel guilty in the least bit. I have always given back money if a cashier gives me too much, even if it is 2 cents. Made sure that my merchandise has been rung up at the register. I make it a point to be as honest as possible especially at retail stores because SHORTAGES affect CHRISTMAS & HOLIDAY bonuses...It affects the employees. It affects the customers because PRICES will increase...people who steal or "accidentally take" from stores, hardly look at the big picture.
The mistake should have been corrected by Kalel Cullen even as a consumer. She noticed an error and keeping her mouth shut was not the right decision. This poor guy may get fired and yes employees do face consequences on shortages especially at the cash register. The question is, why does Kalel believe that not saying anything and keeping the $200.00 worth of merchandise is okay? Because to her it's "just $200.00" and the "retail UNIVERSAL policy" allows her to..."oops the transaction is over, I win." I would love to see this policy.
So the discussion went like this:
Subscriber:
Seriously, Kalel.. if you had any morals or conscience, you would at least call them and tell them what happened. Just be like, "I honestly didn't realize it until I got home and since you're an hour away from me I just felt that I should call you & explain what happened, and to get your input on this." $200 is QUITE a difference... I would feel entirely too guilty to NOT let them know :(. But I guess that's what happens when one person has a conscience & another doesn't.
Kalel:
His drawer wasn't $200 short, it was missing $200 in coupons. And regardless if I had called or not, it doesn't change that fact that he had a major lapse in judgement. His boss would write him up for that no matter what.
What does all this say about Kalel?? She isn't honest enough to go back and return $200.00 worth of stuff or pay the extra $200.00 in coupons that was shorted. She is keeping the merchandise and feeling good about it. In her eyes she did nothing wrong because the cashier had a lapse in judgement. She made the video to show everyone all the stuff she bought and never once said she was going to go back and fix the error. I mean really who cares right...it's super cool to get free stuff!! Young girls view her and now it's okay, great role model there. All because Kalel Cullen made it justifiable in her blog by stating a store policy "Retail Universal Policy 879-098" I added the numbers for effect. So it's okay now Kalel, you're off the hook!!!

WRONG PEOPLE.
If for example, you are at a gas station and you get $10.00 worth of gas and you hand the cashier a $10.00 bill and he hands you a $10.00 bill back...thinking you gave him a $20.00 bill, do you take it and run?? NOOO, you give it back and tell him you gave him a $10 bill. It isn't hard to be honest people!! Integrity.
Now if someone is going to make an error of $200.00, it is going to be noticeable at the register!! C'mon unless she spent $1000.00 swiped her card and ran off...ok maybe I would get how she would have missed the error. Even then, go pay the $200.00. (If I am spending over $100.00 on merchandise at any store, the first thing I do is check the receipt.)
What disgusts me even further is that most of her subscribers believe it is okay that she kept the merchandise and didn't say anything. What is going on with the youth today?? I say youth because that is the most common age group on her channel. So maybe that is why they think it's ok. I was the not so common, like I said before, I thought she was sweet, honest, and trying to be herself, she proved me wrong.
Kalel Kristin Cullen Smith, be honest to your subscribers. It is about time. Your viewers consist of young girls who look up to you because of your fashion sense and creativity. Posting videos about having a lucky day because you scored $200.00 worth of merchandise for free because a cashier made an error and kept your mouth shut isn't something to brag about. You only made yourself look like you have 0 integrity and that you are just really greedy. Give back the "LOOT." You are sponsored by companies, you can't deny that. I am sure if they caught wind of your actions, they wouldn't be too happy. Make things right, do it for your viewers. Please do not post a video stating you returned the stuff and really didn't. That "retail UNIVERSAL policy" you speak of, doesn't give you the right to say screw it! Integrity is something you learn as you grow up. People make mistakes, the cashier made a mistake today. His boss might write him up, who knows, we don't know the guy's work history as a cashier. I am sure someone will not be too happy about it. A lot of people said "let it go, it's no big deal, I am sure you would have kept it if it were you." No actually I wouldn't have kept it. Second of all, I am aware of what I am spending when I get to a register, to completely not notice a $200.00 difference is completely ridiculous. Another person stated: "I am in retail and if it were me as the customer, I would have jumped for joy." Say what?? I would have been keeping a close eye on you as your employer.
Where is the integrity and honesty these days?? Is it less common now? So because I made a comment on the video, someone told me to stop being the "good guy." I will say it again, is being the "Good Guy" a BAD thing??? This planet needs more good guys and girls!!
Unsubscribed this time for good.
Watch her video and make your own opinions. I am not here to twist you in any direction. Just stating what I believe in and because this is my blog..I can!!
